Spec2RunAI vs Worksoft: object models or test cases as written.

Worksoft is a long-established enterprise automation platform built around SAP and other packaged applications: it models the application into objects, captures business processes, and runs codeless end-to-end tests from that model. Spec2RunAI runs the manual test case the tester already wrote, against the live screen, with no model to build. Both are codeless. They differ in what has to exist before the first test runs, and in who maintains it afterward. We build Spec2RunAI, so weigh this accordingly; every statement about Worksoft is taken from worksoft.com on the date above and cited by number, and we say plainly where Worksoft is the better choice.

The difference, precisely

What the stored test is.

Worksoft: A Certify process built on an object model

Worksoft’s site describes a “patented Object Action Framework” that “models the application being tested into a series of objects”4, and Certify “separates application objects from business-process logic”2. Business Capture “observes users as they complete everyday work across applications” and captured workflows are “automatically organized into reusable assets by application”5. The stored test is a process defined against that object model, maintained by the functional experts Worksoft describes as able to “build and update codeless, end-to-end automation”2. Worksoft’s documentation describes importing manual tests only from its own Capture XML files6.

Spec2RunAI: the tester’s wording, resolved at run time

Spec2RunAI stores the test case as the tester wrote it — business jargon, multi-action lines, expected results where the tester put them — and resolves each step against the live screen when the test runs. There is nothing to model, scan, or record first. Proven steps replay from selector memory without a model call. Autonomous Tuning may propose clearer wording for a step that drifted, shown beside the original, and the stored test changes only when a person approves it; the expected result never changes (Assertion Lock). The stored test remains a readable document that could run anywhere a person can read it.

Why this matters more than it sounds: a test that exists as a model, a recording, or a generated asset is maintained by people who know that tool, and it leaves with the tool. A test kept in the tester’s words is maintained by the tester, in a document that is also the UAT script, the audit evidence, and the requirement trace. Neither is wrong. They are different answers to who owns the suite.

Where Worksoft is the better choice

SAP, especially SAP GUI. Worksoft recognizes SAP GUI and Fiori objects directly8, syncs with SAP Solution Manager and SAP Cloud ALM7, and has been “testing SAP business processes for more than 25 years”8. Spec2RunAI does not run SAP GUI. Desktop and mainframe. Both are on Worksoft’s list2 and outside our scope. Impact analysis from SAP transports. Worksoft Impact “analyzes SAP transport, configuration, and production-usage information”13; we have nothing equivalent. Regulated validation at scale. Worksoft describes validation support for FDA and EMA requirements10. On-premises AI. If AI must stay inside your data center, Worksoft says its insights use on-premises models12.

Where Spec2RunAI is the better choice

A manual test library you want to keep as written. No object model to build or maintain; the test case the tester wrote is the test. Sign-off evidence per run. Verification coverage per step, failures by cause, and an AI provenance appendix on every run. Insurance core systems. Tuned against live Insurity and Guidewire environments. Known cost. Published per-engagement pricing. SOC 2 Type II attested. Behind the firewall without a database install: a local agent, outbound HTTPS only.

If you are leaving Worksoft

Keeping your test cases when you leave.

In Worksoft, the test is a Certify process defined against an object model of the application4. When you move tools, that model and the processes built on it stay in Certify. What travels is the business process itself: the steps a person would perform and what should be true afterward. If your Certify processes were built from Business Capture recordings, the recorded workflow is the closest thing to a plain-English test case; if they were built by hand, write the steps out once in plain language. Spec2RunAI runs that document as written, so the migration is a transcription, not a rebuild.

Two things to do before any migration, whichever direction it goes: export the plain-language version of every test you want to keep, and run the verification coverage checker on it. Steps with no stated expected result cannot be verified by any tool, and a migration is the cheapest moment to add them.

Test the difference

An afternoon’s evaluation, for either tool.

Take ten of your real manual test cases, untouched. Give the same ten to both vendors. Then look at three things: the stored test afterward (is it still your document, or a translated one, and who will edit it?); a run report (how many steps had their expected result verified, and does the report say which did not?); and a deliberate break (rename a button, and read what each tool did and whether the expected result survived). Decide on what you see, not on what either of us says here.

Common questions

Quick answers.

Is Spec2RunAI a Worksoft alternative?

For web-delivered enterprise applications, including SAP Fiori, Salesforce, Workday, ServiceNow, Guidewire, and Insurity, yes: both are codeless and both target packaged applications. For SAP GUI, native desktop, or mainframe testing, no; those are on Worksoft’s list and outside Spec2RunAI’s scope.

Does Worksoft run existing manual test cases?

Worksoft’s documentation describes importing transactions recorded by its own Capture tool as manual tests. Import of Excel, Word, or test-management documents was not found on the pages reviewed; ask Worksoft. Spec2RunAI runs manual test cases from Jira, Zephyr, qTest, Excel, or Word as written.

Which is cheaper?

Spec2RunAI publishes its price. Worksoft does not publish pricing on the pages reviewed, so a comparison needs a quote. Our three-year cost model takes any figure you are given.

Does Worksoft have SOC 2 or ISO 27001?

We did not find a security certification statement on the Worksoft pages reviewed. That does not mean one does not exist; ask Worksoft. AgileAI Labs holds a SOC 2 Type II attestation.
